<p>This paper develops a hermeneutic approach to the analysis of artifacts of prison subculture, viewed astexts requiring understanding. Based on the philosophical hermeneutics of Paul Ricoeur (dialectic of suspicion and trust) and Hans-Georg Gadamer (principle of fusion of horizons), the study substantiates the methodological possibility of going beyond clinical symptomatology to comprehend the deep structures of the inmate’s personality. It is demonstrated that wall inscriptions, tattoos, and letters are notperipheral markers of deviant behavior butautonomous sign systems representing traumatic experience, current identity, and prospects of hope. The diagnostic potential of the «hermeneutics of suspicion» in identifying defense mechanisms and schizoid tendencies is analyzed, alongside the «hermeneutics of trust» for the phenomenological reconstruction of the subjective world. The concepts of «traumatic fixation» in wall graffiti and «ontological armor» in prison tattoos are introduced. The conclusion emphasizes the necessity of integrating the hermeneutic method into the practice of the penitentiary psychiatrist and psychologist as a tool that allows distinguishing existential communication from role-playing behavior dictated by the logic of the total institution</p>
<kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>Поль Рикёр</kwd><kwd>Ханс-Г еорг Г адамер</kwd><kwd>тюремная субкультура</kwd><kwd>татуировки</kwd><kwd>травма</kwd><kwd>идентичность</kwd><kwd>слияние горизонтов</kwd><kwd>диагностика</kwd><kwd>пенитенциарная психология</kwd><kwd>герменевтика</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>Hans-Georg Gadamer</kwd><kwd>prison subculture</kwd><kwd>tattoos</kwd><kwd>trauma</kwd><kwd>identity</kwd><kwd>fusion of horizons</kwd><kwd>diagnostics</kwd><kwd>penitentiary psychology</kwd><kwd>hermeneutics</kwd><kwd>Paul Ricoeur</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><ref id="ref1"><mixed-citation publication-type="other" xml:lang="ru">Г адамер Х.-Г.
