<p>A high rate of recidivism is traditionally associated with social maladaptation and stigmatization, butclinical experience suggests the existence of a deeper psychopathological mechanism. The article substantiates the phenomenon of «prison cancellation syndrome» as a non-chemical addiction that develops under conditions of total institutional regulation. Based on the data of penitentiary psychiatry, neurobiology of addictions and social psychology, it is shown that the harsh environment of imprisonment, removing the burden of personal responsibility, becomes an existential support for the convict and forms a stable dependence on external control. In this context, release is not the acquisition of freedom, but the traumatic abolition of the habitual «agonist», provoking withdrawal with disorganized behavior and an unconscious desire to return to the penitentiary environment. Understanding relapse as an addictive disorder opens upprospects for rehabilitation requiring long-term post-retirement support based on the principles of substitution therapy by institutional control and gradual restoration of subjectivity</p>
<kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>институциональная аддикция</kwd><kwd>пенитенциарная психиатрия</kwd><kwd>рецидивная преступность</kwd><kwd>синдром отмены</kwd><kwd>выученная беспомощность</kwd><kwd>нейропластичность</kwd><kwd>ресоциализация</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>penitentiary psychiatry</kwd><kwd>recidivism</kwd><kwd>institutional addiction</kwd><kwd>withdrawal syndrome</kwd><kwd>learned helplessness</kwd><kwd>neuroplasticity</kwd><kwd>resocialization</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><ref id="ref1"><mixed-citation publication-type="other" xml:lang="ru">Искандаров Р.Р.
