<p>This article examines restorative justice as an alternative form of criminal justice that focuses on meeting the needs of victims and society, aswell as the offender’s obligation to make restitution to the best of their ability. Itanalyzes the differences between restorative justice and retributive justice, which considers offenders solely in the context of their violation of the law. The goals and main models of restorative justice implementation in international legal practice are explored. A trend toward the increasing application of restorative justice as an alternative form of punishment in western legal systems is identified. The author concludes that restorative justice is based on a premise common to many traditional societies about the interconnectedness of ourhuman relationships, which suggests that harm to oneperson harms the entire network of relationships and obligates us to restore it</p>
<kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>возмездное правосудие</kwd><kwd>правовая система</kwd><kwd>альтернативная форма наказания</kwd><kwd>медиация</kwd><kwd>тюремное заключение</kwd><kwd>восстановительное правосудие</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>restorative justice</kwd><kwd>retributive justice</kwd><kwd>legal system</kwd><kwd>alternative form of punishment</kwd><kwd>mediation</kwd><kwd>imprisonment</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><ref id="ref1"><mixed-citation publication-type="other" xml:lang="ru">Handbook on Restorative Justice Programs. – United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), March 2020. – 126 pp.</mixed-citation></ref><ref id="ref2"><mixed-citation publication-type="other" xml:lang="ru">Umbreit, M.
